UMBRELLA
Whats Umbrella?
It only takes on accident to potentially bankrupt yourself
If you were found negligent or liable for someone else’s bodily injury or death, would you have enough insurance to protect your assets?
Umbrella insurance is a stand-alone liability policy that provides additional coverage over and above your underlying liability limits that are already on your homeowners and auto insurance policies. Keep in mind that most insurance carriers require that you have at least your auto insurance policy with them in order to qualify for their umbrella.
Why Umbrella
My biggest fear is always a new driver taking out someone on a bicycle or any driver for that matter. Say the person you hit had damages of $950,000. Now let us just say you have the highest auto liability limits of $500,000. You're still on the hook for the remaining $450,000 in damages. With an umbrella policy after your auto liability limits are exhausted the million dollar umbrella coverage would step in and cover the remaining damages. Umbrella policies usually range from 1 million up to 5 million. At such a low cost. Policies start at $150 but even if it were $300 that is still great value if the policy stepped in and covered up to 1 million.
